Tips to Keep Your Car in Shape During Lockdown

In normal times, most of the people use their vehicles almost every day. Now millions in the Canadian States are in lockdown at home due to COVID 19. That means millions of cars are sitting idle, too. But there are a few things you can do at home to keep your vehicle in good shape even during this pandemic.

So here are some tips, you need to know about keeping your vehicle in shape while you’re not using it.
1. Run the Engine: Avoid a dead battery, it’s recommended that the owner take the car for a short 5-10-minute drive. So start the car’s engine and move the car around a little at least once every two weeks. Winter’s Auto Service experts also said that a warm engine keeps your fluids from going bad and gaskets from drying out.

2. Choose Your Parking Spot Wisely: Park your car in a garage or in a covered parking spot if possible. Because Parking long term on a soft, permeable surface like grass or dirt allows moisture to travel up into your car’s undercarriage, causing rust. So choose the parking spot wisely.

3. Do Some Basic Maintenance: Add a fuel stabilizer and preservative to the gas tank of your car. And if your vehicle needs an oil change, get it done. Keep checking the tire pressure .
Do not use the parking brake for long-term storage if possible, because it might freeze or create other brake system problems.

4. Top Off Your Tank: The benefits of filling up on gas before parking long term are twofold. Topping off prevents condensation from accumulating inside the tank and it also stops gasoline fumes from building up to hazardous fumes from building up to  hazardous level.

5. Consider Using a Car Cover:  A cover can protect your paint from the elements, so long as you clean your car thoroughly before putting it on. But if you put cover on dirty, then it can do more harm than good, because the car cover can rub and abrade your car’s paint overtime.

6. Wax and Seal to Protect Your Paint: If you want to go the extra mile in protecting your car’s paint then wax and seal your car before putting it away. Wax and seal will protect you car’s paint. That’ll prolong the longevity of the paint, even in the face of dust and other contaminants.
